Minooteeni (translated as “Village”) Park in Vincennes, Indiana, was created to honor the Native American people of the area. Most prominent among the park’s displays is a wood-carved sculpture of Shawnee Chief Tecumseh, created by artist Peter Toth.

Tecumseh is best remembered for attempting to unite the Indigenous peoples of the Great Lakes region of the United States. He formed a confederation of tribes known as the United Indian Nations, an effort to halt the westward expansion of the United States.

Tecumseh served as the political leader, while his brother, Tenskwatawa (“The Prophet”), acted as the spiritual leader. The confederation ended with Tecumseh’s death in October 1813, when he was killed in battle in Canada.

De Iraanse Revolutionaire Garde komt op de Europese terroristenlijst, zo hebben de EU-ministers van Buitenlandse Zaken donderdag besloten. Nadat een aantal grote landen waaronder Frankrijk overstag ging, stemden donderdag ook kleinere landen ermee in.

Voor een dergelijk besluit was unanimiteit vereist.

De EU zet de Iraanse Revolutionaire Garde op de Europese terrorismelijst. Dat hebben de ministers van Buitenlandse Zaken van de 27 EU-landen unaniem besloten.

Tot nu toe was er onvoldoende steun onder de landen om dit te doen, maar nadat Frankrijk draaide schaarden alle andere lidstaten zich ook achter de maatregel. Nederland pleitte er al langer voor om het militair elitekorps van het Iraans regime op die lijst te plaatsen.

De sanctie is een reactie op de repressie door het Iraanse regime. Bij protesten vielen volgens mensenrechtenorganisatie HRANA de afgelopen tijd meer dan 6000 doden.
